Infection after breast augmentation
Complications are risks of all surgeries. Fortunately, the risks and complications of these breast enhancement surgeries are relatively rare or uncommon. It is important to understand that they do exist though. Infection is very rare. It can occur very soon after a breast implant is placed or may occur late. The late occurring infection is even more rare.

Fortunately this is a very rare problem in breast augmentation. This surgery was done in a rural town by a non-certified 'General' surgeon. He had no plastic surgery training and was not certified. The infection occurred over 1 year after her breast augmentation surgery and she came to the office with the breast implant sticking out of her skin. She has significant loss of her breast tissue on that side. She required removal and wound healing and then reinsertion of breast implants.

This woman had her breast augmentation done in South America and developed a wound under her breast. It was sore, then scabbed, and then the breast implant was exposed. The difference in the size of the hole in the skin was one week. It took her a few days to decide to have her breast implants taken out.
