Testimonials of patients after breast augmentation in Virginia

I want to share my experiences with any women out there who are lucky enough to do enough research online, as I was, and have been able to find Dr. Michael J. Brown online.

I am from Pennsylvania and I have close professional ties with all my area hospitals and their staff. I felt it appropriate to go out of the area when I decided to have a breast augmentation done. Therefore, I decided to go online and do my breast augmentation searching.

I went to hundreds of websites and hundreds of Doctor’s sites. Only Doctor Brown's website had the information that kept me coming back when I had a question. I virtually had my entire consult online on his site before I had even met anyone from his office.

I would also like to mention his bedside manner and his staff's acute attention to detail. They were great. I had my breast augmentation done with my friend (My Bosom Buddy). We had our consult together had our surgery together and our recoveries together. But we are very different people. I want to mention that within 2 minutes of meeting the staff and Doctor Brown that they all picked up on our ‘day and night’ different personalities and treated each of us the way we needed to be treated.

Because I am fortunate to know a lot of medical professionals, I had Dr. Brown checked by 2 plastic surgeons, an ER Doctor and a Registered Nurse who assists with a Plastic surgeon. All of whom gave me the go ahead with Doctor Brown and gave his credentials rainbow reviews. Because of them, I was very confident in Dr. Brown before even meeting him. But after meeting him I was 150 percent confident with zero apprehensions.

Except for the normal fears of surgery, which his bedside manner was easily able to handle, I went to surgery. I am now 11 days post-op and doing great, I spend a lot of time looking at "the girls". And enjoy everyday the changes. They are dropping and softening and looking better each day as i was told they would do. I cannot express enough thanks to you guys for giving me the femininity that I so needed. I can't wait to come back for my follow up.

The Stats:
33 years old (no children)
5' 9"
165 lbs
Right breast was larger than the other with unique breast folds on each breast
large framed
long torso
wide breast bone
36 nearly B
Now a beautiful proportionate 36 full D and both breasts match
So you can see Doctor Brown had a lot to deal with but I came out looking wonderful and feeling so beautiful.

Thank you again Doctor Brown and staff.

When I started my research about breast augmentation, I found numerous websites and articles advising against the breast augmentation surgery and some even condemning the practice. I deliberated for three years before I finally decided to go through with the breast implant surgery. I made this decision in spite of the negative publicity because I realized what I would be gaining was worth the risk. For some women, this may not be the case, but I believed it was the right choice for me.

My 36A chest made me feel very self-conscious especially in a bikini. I would avoid all situations and outfits that did not allow me to wear a padded bra. My breasts were preventing me from living a full life. I believed that breast augmentation would increase my quality of life and my happiness.

I discovered Dr. Michael Brown through the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery website which linked me to his website. What initially drew me to him were the before and after photographs of breast augmentation surgeries he had preformed. Out of all of the surgeons I had researched, his patients had consistently natural results. A natural look breast augmentation was very important to me. I knew that Dr. Brown was the right plastic surgeon during my initial consultation. Rather than have a blasé, “whatever you want” attitude, he gave me his honest input on my expectations.

I believe a mistake that women often make is assuming that the results of breast augmentation will be the same in all circumstances. I think choice of plastic surgeon is crucial. Different plastic surgeons will produce different results. If you are not particular enough when you choose your plastic surgeon, if you go for the lowest price rather than the highest quality, or do not do enough research about your options, then you set yourself up for disappointment. Also, it is necessary to ask questions and be completely honest about your desires and expectations. When I went in for my initial breast augmentation consultation, I had a list of questions already prepared so I would not forget anything.

I was nervous about the actual breast implant surgery because it would be my first time “going under the knife.” At the hospital, I was shaking uncontrollably. Now that I look back on it, I realized I had nothing to worry about. I had a good experience with the anesthesia and woke up with no pain. When I woke up, it did not feel like I had gone through surgery at all. I was walking around and eating that same day.

My recovery was short and easy. The only time I experienced any pain was in the middle of the night when my medication would wear off. To help with that, I kept my pills, a bottle of water, and some crackers on my night stand so that when I did wake up, I could take my medication right away. This only lasted for the first three nights. I believe that the key to my easy recovery was taking my medication. I took it every five hours for the first three days and did not experience much pain at all. I was able to stop taking the prescription pain killers by the fourth day and rely on extra strength Tylenol. I was back to work exactly one week after my breast augmentation surgery and felt totally fine.

Although my experience has been good, I do understand that breast augmentation is a serious surgery and is not to be taken lightly. It is not for everyone. Those who decide to have breast augmentation can make their experiences the most positive by gathering all the information they can. It has been about a month and a half since my surgery and I could not be happier with the results. Having a plastic surgeon who was honest about everything and answered all of my questions plus the amount of research I did, gave me a firm grasp on what I would experience. I am very happy with my decision.

I am 33 yr old and a mother of three. I weigh 111 lbs and am 5'3. My bra size since forever has been a 34 A. Even though my body was in good shape and I should be so lucky after three children. My self confidence when shopping for bras and entering the pool area in my bathing suit was not always a pleasure for me. I believe that beauty starts on the inside for every woman but to feel incredible about yourself on the outside should be just as fulfilling. I had considered a breast augmentation in the past but never researched the details.

Over the last two years, I have met several women who had breast augmentations. Each time, Dr. Michael J. Brown's name was mentioned when I asked who did their breast augmentation surgery. They could not say enough good things about their experience with Dr. Brown. After hearing so many encouraging comments and seeing his work first hand, I wanted that same experience for myself. I wanted to feel wonderful and look great all the time. I didn't want to search all day for the right party dress, shirt, bathing suit and even bras. I wanted to feel complete. I wanted to be comfortable with myself.

In February of 2005, I researched Dr. Brown's office in the internet. I found all the answers to my questions from the information on the site. I was so impressed with the detail that I called the next day and made an appointment. After my appointment in the first weeks of March, I scheduled my breast augmentation surgery for the 28th. I was advised step by step how the procedure, pre and post-op, would go and it went exactly the same. The staff is so detail oriented. The professionalism and friendliness was more than enough for me to know, I had picked the right doctor.

My breast augmentation surgery was at 7:30 and I was home by 11:30. I had absolutely no bruising. My incisions were under my breasts and are approximate an inch long. I slept for the first day. The next two days were a little painful because of the swelling. I can only say "frozen peas" in a bag. I am now one week into recovery and I feel exceptional. I took off 5 days off from work. I had the obvious pain for the first three days, but after that I was motivated and able to do small activities. Days 4 & 5, I went for small walks, cleaned house and was able to reach above my head to dry my hair. Of course, I stayed on my meds as Dr. Brown advised. I did as much as I felt comfortable doing each day. Day 7, I feel 99%. A little bit of tight around the muscles but that is expected. I can already sleep on my sides.

I am so pleased with my decision to go with Dr. Michael J. Brown. I look so natural that some people that I work with have not even noticed. I feel incredible. My husband is extremely happy with the outcome. He supported my decision and has even thanked Dr. Brown himself. I love my body! I am wearing the same shirts from before but I have tasteful cleavage that accessorizes my old wardrobe.

As with any surgery, there is pain and inconvenience. When you find the right doctor and you have the right attitude, you can minimize any of the two and have a successful outcome. I did just that, I found Dr. Brown and I knew what I needed to boost my self confidence.

Dr. Brown,

I wanted to let you know how incredibly happy I am with the results of my breast implant surgery. You truly are gifted as a skilled plastic surgeon. Thanks so much!!

The idea of breast augmentation had crossed my mind many times, but after hearing "horror stories" on tv or reading about them in magazines, I was scared and hesitant. Shortly before my wedding, I started exercising and lost around 15 lbs. I was very proud of myself. However, I went from a small 34B (in which I already felt small) to a 34A. It bothered me that I had to wear inserts and padded bras to feel comfortable with my appearance. With my husband's support, I decided to go to a few breast augmentation consultations.

We tried to gather as much information about the breast augmentation procedure as possible before our visits. This was a huge decision for me and I was not going to go through with it unless I felt completely comfortable with the plastic surgeon. Dr. Brown was my very last consultation and I knew he would be my choice. He was patient, answered all my questions, and most importantly, was realistic about the procedure, recovery, and results. I have a small frame (5\'2 1/2", 110lbs) and it was important to me that my breasts compliment my figure. The photos of Dr. Brown's previous breast augmentation patients were the most natural looking of all the plastic surgeons I visited. Most of all, after meeting Dr. Brown I felt CONFIDENT and SAFE in my decision to have breast augmentation.

The breast augmentation surgery went smoothly. In the past, I had problems with nausea after my appendix was removed because of the anesthesia and pain pills. Dr. Brown knew about this and precautions were taken. I did have slight nausea a couple of days after surgery, but Dr. Brown's staff were extremely helpful and provided me with medication that immediately took care of it. The hardest part of the breast implant recovery was having limited use of my arms. It was helpful that my husband took off work for a couple days right after surgery to help me. Other than that, I was off pain pills and on Tylenol only 3 days after surgery, and I had no bruising at all! About one week after surgery I was pretty much back to my normal self. The recovery process from the breast implants was much easier than I expected!!

I am incredibly satisfied with my breasts and my decision to choose Dr. Brown. I am now a 34C. My incisions were submammary and are much smaller than I expected. I was relieved that they are not noticeable at all. While my breasts sat high at first, they have since dropped and feel like a natural part of "me." In fact, when I saw a friend about a month after breast implant surgery, she said I looked great and asked if I had been exercising! What I most wanted was for others to notice that I looked great, not that I had breast implants--and with Dr. Brown I achieved that. I greatly appreciate his honesty, integrity, and skill. I would definitely do it all over again.

I had been thinking about having breast augmentation for some time, having had a child and lost breast tissue as a result of nursing. I felt out of proportion and missed having the breast fullness I had prior to childbirth. My biggest concern was looking natural with breast augmentation. I had several friends that had undergone the breast augmentation procedure and many looked like they had glued water balloons to their chest or had funny, cone-shaped appendages that apparently cost them thousands of dollars.

I started researching on the web a bit to find out what the public had to say about local doctors and was even more discouraged when I saw some of the "after" shots on some of the sponsored web sites. Finally my sister's roommate, who works for a local surgeon, recommended Dr. Michael J. Brown to me, saying that was who her surgeon referred to regularly since it was not their office's specialty and that they had seen his work and it was the best consistently.

I decided to check him out via the web and was impressed with both the photos and the quick response I got to my email submission for information. I met Dr. Brown the following week and walked away completely convinced that he was the one who was going to do them. He is good at combining a professional, experienced feel with excitement, while not being too serious or seeming disinterested. I made my appointment for breast augmentation surgery a couple of months out due to timing issues and gave myself something to look forward to. By the time my breast augmentation surgery rolled around, I had plenty of information and felt well prepared. I had a few friends making me think that the pain would be awful and that I would be bed ridden for days. I was willing to live with that, having seen the outcome of Dr. Brown's breast implant surgeries though. The hospital that he chose to perform surgery at (Fair Oaks Inova) was extremely nice and the staff was like a "checks and balances" system for the surgeon, rather than in some cases where breast implant surgeries are performed in surgeons' offices.

I felt very relaxed and couldn't wait to have my breast augmentation surgery done. I was put under anesthesia and woke up with NO pain! My nurse was cute and wanted to see...she said she wanted hers done too and heard Dr. Brown was good! So of course, I showed her! At any rate, I went home and kept waiting for the pain to get really bad. It never did! I was stiff and very sore the first three days (but really, not bad!!!), needing periodic naps, but keeping up on my pain meds and applying ice packs kept it at bay. By the fourth day, I was still very swollen, but needed nothing stronger than motrin and felt just a bit sore. I was also expecting to be swathed in some sort of mummy-like bandages at this point, but Dr. Brown told me that he doesn't believe that leads to a natural look and can actually make the pain last longer. It was nice to be able to see them immediately and the end result was amazing, so I will buy this theory completely! I was back at the gym in 2 and a half weeks (not doing any heavy upper body lifting...) and saw a marked improvement in the shape of my new boobs as the days went by. (At first they were a little torpedo-like since they were still high and the muscles needed to relax...) By the time I went in for my second check up, my breast shape was great and I just needed to let gravity do its thing a little bit longer in order for the incisions to be completely obscured. By my 3rd month, they were PERFECT! You had to actually be looking for the incision and they were exactly as I wanted them to be. I had asked that the breast mounds be proportional size-wise to my body frame and the breasts look like they came with my body (or should have) and belong to someone who never had children! i could not possibly be more pleased! The only downside: having to buy new bras and not fitting in to shirts from before...or is that a plus???? I would do breast augmentation again tomorrow if need be and cannot believe how easy it all was!

As a result of breastfeeding and large weight loss in the past years, and now at the age of 48, I was left with very little breasts with no fullness to them at all. After a lot of thought and research, I decided to take the next step and see a plastic surgeon. I chose Dr. Michael J. Brown because he had done an in-office procedure on me a few years prior and I felt confident going to him. Also, breast augmentation is his specialty. When I finally made the decision to proceed with breast augmentation, I had a couple visits with Dr. Brown and then we set the surgery date. In the next few weeks before the breast augmentation surgery date, well-meaning acquaintances would tell me horror stories and I would get very anxious and have to call Dr. Brown's office. Each time one of his Patient Care Coordinators would take the time to talk me through it and reassure me. I was also concerned about being "too large."

Please know that Dr. Brown knows what size is best for your shape and to have confidence in his expertise. I let him know of my preferences, he listened, and I realized I just needed to relax and trust him. The breast augmentation surgery went very well. The post-operative pain was pretty severe for the first 2 1/2 days but after that, recovery was rapid. I highly recommend you have someone there to assist you for at least the first two days. The breasts are beautiful, perky, round, full, and with each passing week, relaxing and lowering into a more natural place and just incredible. I brag to my girlfriends that I don't even need a bra to support them. I am now three months post breast augmentation surgery and the breasts are feeling more and more natural. The only down side to this is that I have little feeling in my nipples. I am hopeful that the sensitivity will return. My clothes look much better and I feel so much more womanly and confidant. If you are feeling embarrassed or insecure about your breasts, I recommend having a breast augmentation by Dr. Michael J. Brown."

I thought about getting breast implants for years before I actually gathered enough courage to start my research. After my mom received her successful breast augmentation I was more motivated than ever to start my search for my surgeon. I went to three different plastic surgeons for consultations. Dr. Brown was the first, he gave me great advice...what to look for in a GREAT surgeon, questions to ask, the appropriate implant size for me according to my life style/body shape and many other topics. I left his office feeling more confident than ever that I was making the right decision going forward with my surgery. After going to my next two consultations I found that I had the highest comfort level with Dr. Brown. I strongly advice going to more than one consultation, it reassured me that Dr. Brown was indeed the right doctor for me and that he did know the business very well. You know you have chosen the perfect plastic surgeon when you can leave all the decisions in their hands. I had so much trust in Dr. Brown that I had no doubt he would pick the perfect breast implant size.

It has been four months since my surgery and I honestly could not be happier. My breast implants are the perfect size for my body and make my pear shaped figure look more proportional. This small change has given me a HUGE confidence boost. Thank you Dr. Brown...you did a great job.

I went on 11 breast implant exchange consultations within a 6 month period looking for a doctor in my immediate New York/New Jersey home area to perform an implant exchange. My breast implants were seven years old and had bottomed out - I was just no longer happy with how they were positioned and wanted to also go bigger. I was discouraged by the consultations - either I was not comfortable with the doctor - or the doctor was discouraging and made a big to-do about "sewing pockets" to reposition the breast implants - or the cost was just prohibitive. I had paid just over $5,000 the first breast augmentation and I just wasn't willing to pay double that just to get the breast mounds looking back to how they were supposed to be. I had just about given up on the idea of having the breast implant exchange surgery when my boyfriend really stepped up and really started doing research on the Internet. We researched for about two months constantly - investigating different informational sites, doctors and the work they had performed. We sent out emails for info and went back and forth with many offices, collecting info and trying to form impressions / expectations. Through one statistical site, we found that prices were dramatically different in areas other states such as Virginia, Maryland and Washington,DC, compared to the New York area - for the same procedure and what we saw as being the same if not better result, depending on the doctor. As it turns out, we saw in the pictures posted online - and found out later firsthand ourselves - the fact that someone is a plastic surgeon from a big city like New York City means nothing about their talent or the quality of their work.

Luckily we found Dr. Michael J. Brown in northern Virginia near Washington, DC - an easy four area drive from us. Location, cost, board certification and good results / pictures were our top priorities and he met all of them. He and his staff were extremely accommodating and professional. We were able to get all of the information we requested by either email or phone. All questions were answered and concerns addressed / discussed as many times as it took to make things clear or make us comfortable with our understanding. One of the things we most appreciated was that every person we spoke with, including Dr. Brown, really took their time with us - none of our conversations or visits were rushed. The procedure / risks were explained in detail and everyone really cared about ensuring we got what we needed.

Once we made the decision to proceed, it was all downhill. We came in for the consultation (one visit), had one pre-op, the actual procedure and one follow-up. Prior to the procedure, I sent the payment by mail. Within a week I was feeling and looking better than ever.

Some things I would like to note -

First, I went into Dr. Brown's office with no information on my current breast implants. I had that first breast augmentation procedure done in New York. It had never been explained to me 7 years back by that doctor how many cc's I had in me, what brand/ model implant, etc. I was young, had not done any research. I had no idea my doctor had not been even board certified. When I went back to have my breast implants fixed - I found out he was no longer in practice and nowhere to be found due to malpractice suits -so I had to go somewhere else - and I had no medical records or info. In New York, the cutoff is 6 years to get your records from the hospital itself. So I was out of luck. The point being is that it was a challenge on Dr. Brown's part to achieve the look I wanted - not knowing anything about what he would find during the procedure - or how much was me or the current implant - and what size breast implants he should use. I am 5'2 approximately 95-100 pounds, depending on the day. I went from 34C (Mentor) with my previous breast implants in to a 34DD (MgGhan moderate profile) saline. I believe I received 630cc on one side and 660 on the other, since I was naturally a little bigger on one side. The results were amazing - exactly the look we had discussed with him and shown in pictures - and well beyond our expectation. Actually I had bought a bra ahead of time that I wanted to fill afterwards - and without even dealing with bra sizes per say and just taking the time to understand the look I wanted - he nailed it on the head. That bra is a perfect fit and the style he chose really suits my body.

Secondly, I was home in New York recovering and within a day or so - I developed a small tape blister where the surgical tape had been placed over the scar. Before the panic could set in from not knowing what that was - we took a picture and emailed it over to Dr. Brown. He was able to identify it and alleviate our fears immediately. It was no big deal and went away within a day. Fast, easy communication by email.

Thirdly, whereas every single other plastic surgeon had talked about the fact that we "had" to go in through the previous scar below the nipple, Dr. Brown gave us a choice - that or to go underneath the breast. I had never even wanted to consider that approach because I did not want a second scar and had seen a lot of underneath "chop job" pictures on the Internet. But as I thought about it, I was also worried about ruining the nipple area with another breast incision in the same place since I already had a little pucker there from my first breast augmentation procedure. Finally, we made the decision together and went with alternative suggestion of the second 'scar' underneath. Only the second scar was barely anything at all. It was a very tiny thin line in one direction - no criss-cross stitches or any type of sewing that you could see. It was a great surprise and great decision to go that route instead.

Fourthly, for anyone considering coming from New York- we stayed overnight in Baltimore, Maryland near Inner Harbor when we went for our breast augmentation consultation. It is directly on the way to Dr. Brown's office and a beautiful area to visit. (There is even a very affordable Holiday Inn Express there directly off of the highway). Baltimore, Maryland is 3 hours of the drive to Dr. Brown's from our house in NY. There is a beautiful area by the water, shops, great restaurants and the baseball field. So we drove in the previous night, stayed there, cut our down our travel time for that day to the one hour and enjoyed visiting the area. Then we did the last hour to Dr. Brown's the next day. Just a nice idea if you are into making a little more out of your trip. For the day of the procedure itself, we did stay overnight in Virginia near the hospital - also very affordable for anyone wondering. Check online travel sites to find the best hotel rates in that area - we booked about two weeks in advance.

Overall, my boyfriend and I could not be happier with our experience. Dr. Brown's office was convenient to our home in New York - definitely worth the commute. The majority of the drive from the New York area is just a straight line, one road - easy and very scenic. The price was below 98% all other doctors we investigated in the New York area; but - all the other doctors fell short on at least one of our other priorities I mentioned above. He and his staff were a pleasure to deal with - friendly, responsive - and reacted quickly to calls and email. They worked with and addressed both my boyfriend and I as one client, which I really appreciated. They make things as easy and pleasurable as possible for you. They educate and inform with info, pros and cons - and let you maintain solid control of your body and decisions. They even dealt with the fact we had practically overeducated ourselves on the Internet - we over thought certain things - and knew enough to even drive ourselves crazy and be pests. All in all, we learned that the doctor knows best - in this case at least. Dr. Brown has a real eye for perfection and the work he did on me came out absolutely beautiful. I could not give him a high enough recommendation. Take it from someone who did a LOT of homework ahead of time and has been there.

J.S.

I want to thank you for giving me a breast augmentation experience to remember. I drove up to the Washington D.C./Virginia area from Georgia with my fiancé and had the breast augmentation surgery while on vacation. You were great and I am very happy with the results. We had our breast augmentation consultation and breast implant surgery in the same day and I was up and going right after that. We went to the mall to shop and later relaxed. We saw most of D.C. sites and we had a lot of fun. Thank you again for everything.
