Fortunately this is a very rare problem in breast augmentation. This surgery was done in a rural town by a non-certified ‘General’ surgeon. He had no plastic surgery training and was not certified. The infection occurred over 1 year after her breast augmentation surgery and she came to the office with the breast implant sticking out of her skin. She has significant loss of her breast tissue on that side. She required removal and wound healing and then reinsertion of breast implants.
